Sunday, Sep. 21, from 4 to 8PM CET the first edition of the Jubelfest will take place in Tatti, Southern Tuscany.

The Jubelfest is a civic cultural event where participants will be able to experience, and contribute to, a melting pot of food for their mind and their stomachs. The hosts for the afternoon will be Jug Band dalle Colline Metallifere (JBCM), an international and inter-generational collective created in 2018 with the intent of combining music and professions around to create outreach on its territories. The JBCM has over one hundred events in its track record and is has recently toured Germany for the fourth time in what was called “Jubel Tour”.

For your mind: the band will be proposing in a street music combo its enticing folk-blues-rock repertoire, next to a micro-exhibition including hand-made prints and T-shirts (produced by Tattistampa), vynils, ancient games, maps, and books…this is a sample of objects that surround and inspire the JBCM’s activities (and are often created or kept by them, or by folks they collaborate with).

For your stomach: it will be possible to taste peculiar and high-quality products from Tuscany and Germany, in addition to a selection of wines (not just from the Metalliferous Hills, where Tatti is located). The Jubelfest might also be an opportunity to get to know Tatti and its surroundings, thanks to the trails proposed by the local Amministrazione Separata Beni Usi Civici (see link).

To add to this platter a little more international spice, some parts of the fest will be covered by ARTE TV, which since May is producing a documentary featuring Wolfgang Scheibe, the one-bass-string player with the JBCM, aka Tattistampa.

To wrap up the evening, as the 21st will be a new moon night, if the sky is clear it will be possible to take some measurements of light pollution and night sky quality, in the context of the BuioMetria Partecipativa project.

The Jubelfest is created and managed by the pibinko.org network (active since 2007 in interdisciplinary projects concerning the promotion and development of lesser-knon territories), with support by CircolArte Tatti and Associazione Beni Usi Civici di Tatti (additional support by other subjects is in the process of being finalized).

Last, but not least, the Jubelfest will be the opportunity to have a preview of the activities that the pibinko.org network is planning for the 2025-2026 Winter, and -who knows- maybe develop new collaborations.

Attending the Jubelfest is free, but it will be possible and appreciated if you leave something to further support the organizers and their projects (see https://www.pibinko.org/support). Non-Italian-speaking visitors are encouraged: the JBCM speaks Italian, English, French, German, and Portuguese.

By “civic works” we refer to restoration of old fountains, trail maintenance, art installations etc… the common trait is that these are projects created (and supported) by local communities**. If you click on a point you may see more details and, if available, access a page for more information. The map legend and the links are currently in Italian, but we will be glad to provide a full bi-lingual version of the atlas if enough cases from out of Italy emerge.

The renovation of the Fonte delle Tanelle in Tatti, Southern Tuscany, has been completed

The renovation of the ancient Fonte delle Tanelle in Tatti, Southern Tuscany, and of the adjacent washhouse, has been completed. The works have been supported by the Amministrazione Separata Beni Usi Civici (ASBUC) di Tatti, in the context of the activity it manages to benefit the local population.

If you are not from Tatti: in the map below you may see thee location of the fountain, together with a suggestion by ASBUC for a light hike (3.7 km) around the village, with the fountain as a mid-point for a stop and a snack along the way.

European State Names in Italian Streets (version 1)

With the pibinko.org network we have started an analysis of street names in Italy, based on national open data records…always with an eye for lesser known situations (as we have been doing since 2007 in various contexts).

The reference to Greece is definitely prevailing in regions which are closer to the Hellenic peninsula…

Following a first experience with names of singers and songwriters (see link, in Italian), we decided to approach another category…European states. Below you will find the interactive map, where you can zoom around to check out where European state names are used in streets or squares of the Bel Paese.

Please note that this is a first round of the exercise…if you have names to add, or other comments to improve the analysis, please write to micalosapevo@pibinko.org or +393317539228. Furthermore, if you like this work, you may support the project (write to the same contacts to learn how).

The reference to”Jugoslavia” (or Iugoslavia, the red diamonds), has never been used in most of Northern Italy, while Balkan state names had a larger diffusion.

France takes the first position in the citations, followed by Hungary, Belgium, HoIland, and Greece in the first five positions.

Mountainous areas (in the Alps and the Appenine ridge) seem to be less prone to refer to singers or European states in their street names…
