From the Metalliferous Hills to Milano, and back. Ep. 11 – Rough shadows

Stagecoach (Ombre rosse in Italian) is a Western directed by John Ford, scripted by Dudley Nichols and adapted from a story by Ernest Haycox called The Stagecoach to Lordsburg (1937) . It’s about the journey of a motley group of passengers in a stagecoach passing through dangerous Apache territory. The film stars John Wayne, in the role that made him famous, and Clair Trevor. It was the first of many ‘Ford’ Westerns which were shot in Monument Valley (source: Wikipedia )

In line with the story we are currently living and telling with the Jug Band Colline Metallifere we could make a similar film adaptation which would go as follows :

Rough Shadows is a “Central” (1) film set in 2029, directed by Giovanni Guado (2) . It tells of a journey of international and inter-generational collective (3) that, in a Fiat Qubo (4), crosses the frankly-not-dangerous Pilones territory (5). The film stars Raman Crivelli, Bob Thorne, Alex Gaidos, Mauro Tirannosauro and Darius Canal, in the role that made him famous, and was the first of many films by Guado based in the Farma Valley (6)

(1) Western movies are so called because they are set in the West of the USA, so if we make a film in Tuscany, in the center of Italy, we can call it “Central”
(2) An Italian translation of John Ford (after all many European directors have given themselves English pseudonyms over the years such as Luigi Cozzi who became Lewis Coates and Aristide Massaccessi as Joe D’Amato etc.)
(3) The Jug Band Colline Metallifere and friends
(4) The vehicle currently available to Jack O’Malley, waiting for European Post-COVID fuding to give him an electric car for free
(5) The Pilones are one of the nations that for centuries, have inhabited the central part of the Farma Valley, along with the Tornielleros and the Skalvaios (see this article)
(6) Also known as “The Valley that isn’t there

In the top photo you can see the “Ombre Rozze” crew taking a break from filming at the Boscaiolo in Torniella ( let’s hope they have now recovered ! )

When you can’t find the light | quando non trovi la luce
That guides you through a cloudy day | che ti guida attraverso una giornata nuvolosa
When the stars ain’t shining bright | quando le stelle non risplendono
You feel like you’ve lost you’re way | e pensi di aver perso la strada
When the candle light of home | quando il lume di candela di casa
Burns so very far away | brucia così lontano
Well, you got to let your soul shine | allora bisogna che tu lasci splendere la tua anima
Just like my daddy used to say | come diceva il mio babbo

He used to say soulshine | diceva la luce dell’anima
It’s better than sunshine | è meglio del sole
It’s better than moonshine | è meglio della luna
Damn sure better than rain | certo è meglio della pioggia
Hey now people, don’t mind | ora, ragazzi, non fateci caso
We all get this way sometime | ogni tanto capita a tutti
Got to let your soul shine, shine till the break of day | bisogna lasciar risplendere la propria anima, fino a che non viene giorno

I grew up thinking that I had it made | sono cresciuto pensando di avercela fatta
Gonna make it on my own | che me la sarei cavata da solo
Life can take the strongest man | la vita può prendere l’uomo più forte
Make him feel so alone | e farlo sentire così solo
Now sometimes I feel a cold wind | ora a volte sento un vento freddo
Blowing through my aching bones| che soffia tra le mie ossa doloranti
I think back to what my daddy said | e penso a quello che diceva il mio babbo
He said, “Boy, there is darkness before the dawn” | diceva “ragazzo, prima dell’alba c’è il buio”

Let your soul shine
It’s better than sunshine
It’s better than moonshine
Damn sure better than rain
Yeah, now people don’t mind
We all get this way sometimes
Gotta let your soul shine, shine till the break of day

Sometimes a man can feel this emptiness | ora un uomo può sentire questo vuoto
Like a woman has robbed him of his very soul | come se una donna gli avesse portato via l’anima
A woman too, God knows, she can feel like this | E per Dio, anche una donna si può sentire così
And when your world seems cold | e quando il mondo ti sembra freddo
You got to let your spirit take control | devi lasciare che il tuo spirito prenda il controllo

Talking ’bout soulshine
It’s better than sunshine
It’s better than moonshine
Damn sure better than rain
Lord now people don’t mind
We all get this way sometimes
Gotta let your soul shine, shine till the break of day

Oh, it’s better than sunshine
It’s better than moonshine
Damn sure better than rain
Yeah, now people don’t mind
We all feel this way sometimes
Gotta let your soul shine, shine till the break of day
